What is laser therapy?

Laser therapy is a non-invasive medical treatment that uses low-intensity laser light to stimulate the body's natural healing processes. This therapy promotes tissue repair, alleviates pain, reduces inflammation, and improves blood flow for those recovering from various injuries.

At the Adelaide Health Clinic, our team of therapists use laser therapy to accelerate patients' recovery, reducing their pain and enhancing their overall healing during the rehabilitation process.

When can laser therapy help?

Therapists may incorporate laser therapy into treatment plans for a range of conditions, including, but not limited to:

- Tendonitis: for reducing inflammation and promoting healing
- Sports injuries: to manage pain and support healing
- Achilles tendonitis: promoting recovery and reducing discomfort
- Bursitis: reducing inflammation in affected joints
- Rotator cuff injuries: supporting shoulder healing
- Shin splints: reducing pain and inflammation
- Ligament injuries: for healing support
- Carpal tunnel syndrome: relieving wrist pain
- Cervical strain: treating neck pain and stiffness
- Fractures: supporting bone healing

What should you expect from a laser therapy appointment?

You'll be positioned comfortably, and the laser device will be applied directly to the treatment area. The therapy itself is typically painless and cna last anywhere from a few minutes to around 30 minutes, depending on the condition and the specific laser used.

You may feel a mild, warm sensation during the procedure, but it should not be uncomfortable.

How often will I need to get laser therapy?

The number of sessions required varies depending on your condition, but a series of treatments is often recommended.

What kind of results should I expect from my treatment?

Improvement may be gradual, and you may experience reduced pain, improved mobility, and enhanced healing over the course of your treatment plan.

Is laser therapy covered by OHIP or my insurance?

Laser therapy is not covered under your OHIP but may be covered by your extended health insurance plan. Please check your individual plans for more details. The Adelaide Health Clinic will provide you with an invoice to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
